PURPOSE OF POSITION
American Track is seeking and a reliable and dependable Class B CDL Driver to join our team. The CDL Driver is responsible for the transportation of heavy equipment & material to and from job sites. This role is responsible for operating in a manner that will optimize the company's efficiency and help achieve daily and weekly goals including driving to and from designated locations, verifying loads, maintain record of duty status according to state and federal regulations, and performing pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Safely drive and operate a Class-B VAC truck in a variety of conditions, including urban, suburban and rural environments
Inspect vehicles for mechanical items and safety issues and perform preventative maintenance. Any issues found will need to be brought to the attention of our in-house mechanic
Clean up of multiple types of jobs safely and efficiently to limit downtime and minimize costs
Deliver and recover a variety of equipment, tools, and supplies to and from the customer worksite
Drive safely in tight settings such as construction zones
Follow truck driving rules and regulations (size, weight, route designations, parking and break periods) as well as with company policies and procedures
Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions
Report defects, accidents or violations
Willingness to always wear your seatbelt and the proper/required PPE (personal protective equipment) such as hard hat, hi-visibility class II DOT rated shirt or vest, 6" lace-up steel toed / metatarsal protected boots, eye/ear/face protection on an as needed basis
Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisors(s), adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Education Required: High School Diploma or GED
Work Experience Required: At least 3 years of proven experience driving Class B vehicles
Skills & Knowledge Required: Valid Class B driver's license and medical card required.
Clean driving record
Ability to pass DOT physical and drug test
Must be able to operate manual transmission (13 speed)
Alert, focused, and detail-oriented
Strong knowledge of Federal and State DOT laws.
Ability to operate various pieces of heavy equipment
Ability to work independently with moderate supervision.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Exceptional time management and problem-solving skills
Excellent hand-eye coordination with the ability to reach quickly to unforeseen situations.
Must be able to lift and carry items weighting at least 50 pounds
