Job Description

A full-time Sign Language Interpreter is needed to support an elementary student in a K-12 school setting. This contract position offers an opportunity to facilitate clear and effective communication for a student throughout their daily educational activities. The role is based in South Hill, VA, with a schedule aligned to the school year, allowing for a consistent and structured work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide sign language interpretation services for an elementary student during all classes and school activities
• Accompany the student throughout the school day, ensuring consistent communication access
• Collaborate closely with teachers, staff, and the students support team to foster an inclusive learning environment
• Maintain accurate records of services provided and communicate effectively with educational personnel and family as needed
• Adhere to confidentiality guidelines and professional standards in all interactions

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and the ability to interpret accurately in a K-12 academic setting
• Experience working with children, preferably in an educational environment
• Ability to follow a full school-day schedule, with attention to detail and flexibility for various class settings
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Commitment to supporting student inclusion and equal access to education

Position Details:

• Location: South Hill, VA
• Job Type: Contract, full-time
• Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 3:30 pm (35 hours per week)
• Duration: August 7, 2025 to May 20, 2026
• The role is not itinerant; the interpreter travels only with the assigned student throughout their activities
