Position Summary

The Farm Supervisor supports growing operations under the direction of the Director of Farming by supervising and coordinating day-to-day farming activities for blueberry and Hazelnut crops. This position ensures work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to best farming practices. The role is essential to support organizational goals and model best practices, guided by our values of Excellence, Accountability, Transparency and Stewardship (EATS).

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Schedules and oversees daily assigned farm labor activities of team members.
  • Ensures employees perform work as instructed using proper methods that meets company quality standards.
  • Ensures equipment, such as hand tools, gloves, and personal protective equipment is properly issued, used, and returned.
  • Ensures appropriate maintenance of farm assets and equipment.
  • Reviews FLC crew sheets and employee timecards for accuracy in a timely manner.
  • Attends safety meetings with employees; demonstrates and trains employees to work safely; promotes company safety programs and enforces safety rules and policy.
  • Promotes a culture of teamwork within the labor force and compliance with company policies and labor laws.
  • Assists the Director of Farming to ensure equipment is maintained and kept in working order.
  • Assists the Director of Farming with supervision of frost protection activities on assigned farms.
  • Assists the Director of Farming in recruiting quality crew members who meet or exceed company standards.
  • Communicates and cooperates with other departments (Harvest, Spray, Shop, Admin) to achieve maximum efficiency of all operations.
  • Assists in other departments as directed by the Director of Farming.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff.
  • Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
  • Ensures timecards are reviewed and approved properly.
  • Partners with safety to promote a positive safety culture.
Requirements:

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge and understanding of blueberry and hazelnut farming.
  • Possess team leader qualities with the ability to work well and communicate effectively with fellow employees and management.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of company information.
  • Ability to foster accountability, good communication, and excellence in employees.
  • Ability to train and work with operational personnel on the farms and create a positive environment that encourages employees to interact within the organization.

  • Ability to learn location of blocks and get to know and communicate with the growers.
  • Ability to work long hours/weekends during the harvest season.

  • Ability to focus and complete duties in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment.
  • Self-driven, dependable, and trustworthy.
  • Ability to perform all duties in a safe manner and actively promotes company Illness & Injury Prevention Program and farm safety policies.
  • Supports and promotes company and departmental values and goals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of experience working in farming/growing operations.
  • 1+ years of supervisory experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and driving record acceptable to the Company’s insurance carrier.
  • Bilingual verbal and written English/Spanish.
