フライトアテンダントは、安全規則に従い、乗客が快適に、楽しく過ごせるような機内空間を提供する。出発１時間前には、機長から非常時対処法、乗務員の状態、フライト時間、予想される天候、乗客への特別な手助けの有無などの報告を受ける。救急箱を始めとする必要な物や、機内食、飲み物、アメニティーなどを配置する。 乗客に挨拶を交わし、チケットを確認してシートまで誘導、離陸前には乗客にシートベルトや安全器具などの使い方を説明し、非常時に備える。 飲み物や機内食を提供するとともに、乗客の飛行に関する質問に答え、枕やブランケット、読み物を配り、乗客の健康状態に気を遣い、子供やシニア、身体障害者を手助けする。
