Position description

The Department of Earth System Science at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for 2-year postdoctoral scholar in microbiome ecology and evolution as part of Bio-GO-SHIP.

Position perks:
This is a two-year position that is renewable, pending good progress and funding. The salary will range from 66,737 to 80,034 USD per year, scaling with experience as detailed here, and includes generous benefits.

Project/Position description:
The scholar will lead research projects linked to the large-scale biogeography and dynamics of marine microbiomes using advanced bioinformatics and models. Specially, the postdoc will use our globally collected meta-'omics data to understand controls, population dynamics, and ecosystem impact of marine microbiomes. Although the majority of the research will be computationally, it is possible (if desired) to participate in large oceanographic expeditions and/or molecular work in laboratory. The scholar is expected to organize several research projects and engage in external collaborations. We may be able to accommodate a hybrid work schedule, but please indicate in your application if this is desired and how you could engage meaningfully with the researchers at UCI.

The Earth System Science Department at UC Irvine is highly interdisciplinary. It includes 30 faculty with broad expertise, all devoted to the study of the Earth as a coupled system. UC Irvine is located in Orange County, about halfway between the diverse metropolitan areas of Los Angeles and San Diego. Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

• An expected or recent Ph.D. in microbiology, ecology, molecular biology, or oceanography.
• Scientific experience with microbiomes
• Proficient in bioinformatic analyses (though experience with other complex computational analyses will also be considered).
• Detail oriented with strong organizational and communication skills.
