Special Education Teacher Full Time Position Position Description Flagstaff Academy seeks a special education teacher for the 2024-25 school year. This teaching position reports to the Student Services Coordinator at Flagstaff Academy and works with the SVVSD special education department and itinerants for students with mild and moderate needs. Teachers will work within a resource classroom model with students and in partnership with special education paraprofessional(s).
Qualifications Sought We seek a talented educator who can inspire students and teachers while being inspired by our mission -- “where science and technology take flight.” The successful candidate is expected to deliver dynamic educational experiences with high educational expectations and accountability.
Specifically, we seek an educator with:
- The ability to plan and deliver lessons for identified learning disabilities
- Experience working with high functioning autism and emotional disabilities
- The ability to implement a social skills curriculum and facilitate groups
- The ability to work collaboratively
- Excellent communication skills
- Effective instructional delivery techniques
- Ability to develop quality IEPs and behavior plans
- Ability to complete required paperwork within required timelines
- A willingness to work closely with families
- Credentials as a highly qualified teacher in Colorado
The candidate’s pedagogy should be student-centered and practiced in differentiated instruction with a particular focus on the teaching through investigation and inquiry.
Job Skills and Qualifications:
- Current Colorado special education generalist license (or related)
- Ability to interpret and communicate student data
- Strong systems orientation and commitment to follow-through
- Experience working with elementary and middle school students
- Teaching experience preferred
About Flagstaff Academy Charter School Located in Longmont, Flagstaff Academy is a tuition-free public charter school serving grades kindergarten through eighth. Our school also offers a tuition-based full- and part-time preschool program for three and four year olds.
Since its founding in 2005, Flagstaff Academy has grown into Longmont’s premier science and technology school. Salary Range Salary for our administration staff is competitive and based on years of experience and level of education.

- PERA Retirement - In lieu of Social Security, public employees in the state of Colorado contribute to a tax-deferred retirement account that is administered by Colorado PERA. Employees contribute 11% of monthly earnings while Flagstaff Academy contributes 21.4% to the PERA pension trust fund on the employee’s behalf.
- Life/AD&D insurance - Flagstaff Academy provides a Life/AD&D insurance policy with a $40,000 benefit for each eligible employee.
- Short Term Disability - Flagstaff Academy provides a Short Term Disability policy for each eligible employee.
- Paid Time Off - Employees are granted PTO based on years of service and number of contract days. Part-time employees are granted PTO prorated at the percentage of a 40-hour week.
