SUMMARY: The primary responsibility of the Admissions Counselor is to counsel potential new first time full time freshmen, traditional students and their families to convert those potential new traditional students to enrolled and connected BCU students. Secondary activities include providing service and information to all BCU students and managing special projects related to the admissions process. The Admissions Counselor must demonstrate an ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with team members as well as the campus community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Counsel potential new students and their families about the BCU opportunity and its affordability in an effort to convert those potential students to enrolled first year students
  • Ensure visiting students have a complete campus experience, including follow up after the visit
  • Manage a student segment assigned, as an Alpha Pod and/or territory
    • Travel assigned territory visiting potential new student, high schools, guidance counselors, and parents
    • Coordinate inquiries and initiate the appropriate follow up for each student
    • Respond to and service the needs of prospective students
    • Pre-awarding to use financial leveraging as a recruitment tool
  • Review applications and assign a pre-award based on BCU admissions policies
  • Demonstrate full understanding of the importance of keeping connected with potential new students by:
    • Communicating consistently and effectively with prospective students and their families in person and via phone, email, text messaging, printed media, and the internet
    • Faithfully completing reports
      • Travel reports
      • Weekly and monthly progress reports
      • Expense reports
    • Managing special projects as assigned
      • Coordinate and organize scholarship days
      • Open house visit days
    • Working collaboratively with colleagues within Enrollment Management and financial aid, student development, athletics, registrar, academics, and other campus offices to ensure a consistent and smooth transition from applicant to student.
  • Reviews applications and makes admissions decisions based on BCU admissions policies
  • Participate in Enrollment Management meetings
  • Utilize the CRM and student system to manage and communicate with potential students
  • Assist in the admissions planning process
    • Investigate ways to improve effectiveness and efficiency of admissions functions by attending workshops and reading professional publications
    • Responsible for achieving team goals
  • Assist in creating overall communication flows and other communication that may be sent to counselor’s assigned territory
  • Represent the BCU admissions office in a positive, professional manner at on and off campus events.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervise work study students and telecounselors. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; one to two years related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Computer knowledge (efficient in word and excel)
  • Basic typing and calculator skills
  • Ability to prioritize work assignments
  • Self-motivation with a high degree of initiative and independent judgement
  • High level of confidentiality

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to drive an automobile. Frequent travel required.

The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The employee consistently works at least 40 hours per week and frequently up to 60 hours per week, including some weekend and evening hours.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to extreme cold. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
