TPG is actively seeking a Diesel Test Mechanics to join our team based in the Greensboro, NC area. Our organization supports a leading global company dedicated to building state-of-the-art commercial vehicles. Successful candidates will support the research and development efforts to create the next generation of commercial transport solutions, driving innovation in the automotive and truck industry. In this position, you'll work alongside experienced professionals to troubleshoot, maintain, diagnose, and repair diesel engines and related prototype systems.

Diesel Test Mechanic Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough mechanical inspections and diagnose issues on vehicles designated for testing purposes.
  • Perform a wide range of repairs and maintenance tasks, including but not limited to engine overhauls, truck instrumentation, suspension work, and steering adjustments.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical systems issues in vehicles, ensuring optimal functionality.
  • Maintain accurate records of all inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities carried out on test vehicles.
  • Assemble, instrument, and upgrade prototype test objects in close cooperation with design engineering to support testing activities in test facilities.
  • Act as test object expert in relation to diagnosing and troubleshooting issues which appear during testing phases.
  • Build standard assembly and more advanced prototypes.
  • Maintain close contact with the engineering network.
  • Assemble the test vehicle/engine.
  • Repair the vehicle/engine in case of breakdowns.
  • Fine tune the vehicle/engine.
  • Perform regular troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate closely with other team members to streamline and enhance testing procedures.
  • Occasional travel, ranging from 5 to 25%, may be required for testing at various locations.

Qualifications, Skills and Competencies:

  • High school diploma or equivalent educational qualification.
  • Proven track record of at least 3 years of experience as a mechanic in a testing or automotive environment.
  • Comprehensive understanding of vehicle mechanics, electrical systems, and diagnostic tools.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues in Class 8 vehicles.
  • Prior experience in a truck dealership environment is a plus.
  • Proficiency in documenting testing procedures and results with precision and clarity.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, essential for effective team collaboration.
  • Flexibility to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and testing procedures.

Physical, Safety and Environmental Job Requirements

  • Standing, bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, carrying and moving items of up to 50 lbs. and more
  • Ability to perform essential job functions in an environment with varied noise levels
  • The environment may be dusty, noisy and open to interior temperature changes
