Job Description

The Grant Writer & Institutional Giving Liaison is responsible for securing unrestricted and restricted funding for BGCSL through writing and submitting LOI's and comprehensive proposals. This position also manages internal records, the funding pipeline, timely reports, updates to the CRM, and all relevant grant requirements and milestones. The Grant Writer works collaboratively and strategically with the Director of Development as well as the Chief Programs Officer and members of the Finance team.

Essential Functions:

Grant Writing & Reporting:

• Manage grants processes from prospect research to application planning, to application and/or LOI compilation and submission, to award review, signature, and tracking.
• Identify and evaluate all potential grant opportunities (public and private), present them to the DoD and CPO to demonstrate financial alignment, program and service sustainability, strategic alignment, implementation needs/requirements.
• Develop, write, and submit letters of inquiry, grant proposals, budgets, and periodic and final reports.
• Lead and oversee all grant reporting, working with staff across the organization to ensure grant and donor requirements are met, and necessary data is collected, documented, and reported.
• Maintain a comprehensive record of all pending, awarded, and declined grants using CRM or other designated organizational database.

Portfolio Management and Stewardship:

• Build and maintain relationships with a portfolio of corporate foundations, private foundations, and government funders (excluding ASES and ELOP) with a target of $500K for FY24-25 and approximately $1.5M for FY25-26.

Leadership and Strategic Planning:

• Collaborate with fellow members of the organization's leadership team to develop the pipeline and grants strategy including the CEO, DoD, CPO, and members of the finance team.
• Regularly analyze and report on the outcomes of the Grants within the Development Department to leadership in partnership with DoD, providing insights and recommendations for strategic adjustments based on the findings.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required:

• Bachelors' Degree preferred and 5+ years of experience in development successfully securing institutional funding and exceeding contributed income goals required.
• Outstanding ability to write well-structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals and reports.
• Superior time management, organizational skills, and ability to handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining positive and collaborative relationships with funders, colleagues, and leadership.
• Proficiency with MS Office365, Word and Excel.

Preferred:

• Deep understanding of institutional funders in the San Leandro and East Bay region and national opportunities related to youth development.
• Familiarity and proficiency with Instrumental Grant writing software.

Work Environment:

This position will work primarily in a standard office environment at the Boys & Girls Club of San Leandro. This role may, as needed, require flexibility to accommodate organizational events or deadlines. Key aspects of the work environment include:

• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 25 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
