The Opportunity:
CSL Seqirus is looking for an independent scientist with PhD training in molecular biology, virology, cell biology, biochemistry or related disciplines. You will be responsible for design, generation and characterization of novel mRNA-based antigens for influenza and other viral pathogens to support vaccine development. You will report to the senior team member and work within a team focused on the molecular, cellular and synthetic biology of novel viral vaccines across wide range of pathogens.
The Role:
Optimize construct design and performance of mRNA vaccine platform.
Conceive and execute experiments to inform optimization strategies across wide range of pathogens.
Develop, screen, and test functional RNA elements for optimal expression of gene of interest.
Analyze mRNA performance and molecular attributes using cell culture and in-vivo study in the animals.
Contribute to development of genetic and RNA biology for screening and evaluating mRNA vaccine candidates.
Analyze complex datasets to design and optimize constructs.
Use modern synthetic biology approaches to develop and implement strategies for mRNA constructs and library.
Work collaboratively to develop, implement, and optimize experimental protocols to support process improvements.
Write experimental protocols and prepare internal reports.
Maintain lab notebooks.
Collaborate with project teams, present research results and contribute to technical advancements and publications.
Maintain functional laboratory equipment and keep up with ordering and lab organizing.
You should be agile in supporting other activities in the MCS and other responsibilities, including idea generation and assay supports.
Skills & Experience:
PhD degree in molecular biology, virology, RNA biology, vaccinology or related field with 0-4 years of postdoc experiences in academia or pharmaceutical/biotech experience in molecular biology or RNA biology.
Experience with molecular biology and molecular cloning techniques (Gibson assembly, golden gate, and redigest-ligation based) is required.
Experience with mRNA, with training in RNA biology is required: such as knowledge of RNA structure, in vitro transcription, base modifications, novel RNA capping, RNA tails, splicing, intron, RNA elements, RNA folding, RNA half-life, untranslated regions, or aptamers
Experience with culturing mammalian cell lines and primary cells is required.
Experience of DNA construct design and production is required.
Experience in synthetic biology and cell-based reporter assays.
Working knowledge of the fundamentals of vaccine immunology is desired.
Experience in NGS library preparation, sequencing, and bioinformatic analysis is desired.
Creativity and the ability to create accurate and reproducible results and working effectively in a fast-paced environment is important.
Ability to easily handle and track multiple projects/scientists at once is required.
Strong organizational, written and oral communication skills, and ability to work in a highly collaborative environment is essential.
Proven track record of innovative research (i.e. publications).
Experience in working in cross-functional, multicultural, and international teams.
