Join our team and gain invaluable experience in providing support and advocacy services to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. As a Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Intern, you will have the opportunity to assist with the day-to-day operations and programming of our confidential emergency shelter, while developing a concrete understanding of domestic violence and successfully completing your learning objectives. Under the guidance and mentorship of experienced advocates, you will contribute to creating a safe and supportive environment for women and children seeking shelter. Your role will involve assisting in providing group or one-on-one advocacy, developing positive relationships with clients, creating personalized safety plans, and ensuring services are provided in accordance with agency policies and procedures. Gain hands-on experience in domestic violence and sexual assault advocacy, crisis intervention, and shelter operations. Attend and actively participate in trainings to enhance your knowledge and skills. Work closely with experienced advocates who will provide guidance and oversight. Key responsibilities include assisting with the day-to-day operations and programming of the confidential emergency shelter, providing group or one-on-one in-person advocacy to victims and survivors of domestic violence and their children under mentorship, developing positive and productive relationships with persons served, assisting in the creation of comprehensive personalized client safety plans, providing services in accordance with agency policies and procedures, developing individual goals with your supervisor, taking initiative on shelter operations and advocacy tasks, working independently while adhering to shelter rules and guidelines, attending trainings, completing required paperwork accurately, assisting survivors in establishing and reaching goals, performing data entry on client interactions, providing crisis intervention, and working with the Volunteer Coordinator and Domestic Violence staff. Education and experience qualifications include currently being enrolled at an accredited College or University. Additional requirements include basic knowledge of domestic violence and sexual assault, trauma knowledge, good judgment, effective communication, computer and Google applications skills, time management, decision-making, problem-solving, teamwork, and conflict resolution skills.
