Job Description

The Emergency Department Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care utilizing current nursing knowledge through the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) standards. This role involves the nursing process, including patient assessment, care planning, implementation of nursing interventions, and evaluation of patient outcomes across all age populations, from neonates to geriatrics. The position may require scheduled on-call assignments based on Emergency Department patient volume influenced by community events.

Responsibilities

• Triage every patient entering the emergency care system, determining care priorities based on physical and psycho-social needs.


• Conduct hourly rounding in the department and half-hour rounding in the waiting room for patients awaiting care.


• Document in-depth nursing histories, including chief complaints and pertinent health care details.


• Develop and implement individualized plans of care based on ongoing assessments, ensuring the availability and functionality of necessary supplies and equipment.


• Manage complications and emergencies according to policies and procedures, while adhering to ENA standards.


• Recognize changes in patient health status and direct appropriate interventions to ensure patient safety.


• Document patient responses to interventions to facilitate competent medical care and enhance health education for patients and families.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Current Pennsylvania RN licensure.


• American Heart Association's Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification, all renewed every two years.


• Valid National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
